The Data Overlap window displays all the selections in a selection list. The top panel shows data from all A/D channels, with all selections drawn overtop one another. The bottom "Zoom" panel shows data from the active channel, for a sub-range of time and a subset of selections. The Zoom panel can also show the average or other function of its traces.

Use the Data Overlap window to:

  • see macroscopic traces in a traditional layout
  • identify the measurement window for I-V plots
  • see and fit the average of single-channel bursts
  • make a sub-selection list

You will need to have a selection list to use the Data Overlap window. See Data#Selection Lists to find out how to make one.

The List

The chosen selection list is displayed with checkboxes next to each item. To highlight a selection in the displays, click its entry. Only the checked selections are shown in the lower (Zoom) display. In addition, the meaning of Data Source: list changes while the Data Overlap window is active: "list" includes only the checked selections, and only the portion shown in the Zoom display. To keep this sub-list, right-click the Zoom display and choose "New list of selected".

The Full (top) Display

The top display shows all A/D channels. Each selection is drawn as a trace starting at the left edge. Click a trace to highlight it in both displays and in the list. Click and drag a rectangle to show that portion of the traces in the Zoom display. Specifically, when you draw a rectangle, it puts checkmarks next to all selections that are at least partially in the box, expands the box to contain the minimum and maximum values of the checked selections, and sets the Zoom display's bounds to the box. To reset to full zoom, right-click and choose "Select all".

The Zoom (bottom) display

The bottom display shows only the active channel, only the checked selections, and only within a sub-range of time. It shows what's inside the blue box in the top display. Just as in the top display, click to highlight a trace and drag to zoom in. You can also right-click and "Zoom out" to the previous zoom level.

By default the Zoom panel shows Overlapped traces. In the right-click menu you can switch to Average or Function display.

  • Average: draws the point-wise mean of all checked selections, with a gray region representing +/- one standard deviation
  • Function: draws a user-input pointwise function of any/all selections. The dialect is Python.

When displaying the Average or Function, you can right-click and "Append to Data" or "Curve Fitting".
