A/D Channel
One signal line for recording or stimulation, or in a data file. The number of A/D channels is the number of simultaneous signals. Typically the first A/D channel has current; others might have time-varying quantities such as voltage.
Active Channel
The #A/D Channel which will be acted on by Actions and display settings
Action
A button from the right-hand bar. Also available from the Actions menu. Sometimes called a "Task", "Algorithm" or "Button".
Class
A group of model states with the same current properties (mean amplitude and noise variance), e.g. multiple closed states are a class. States are colored by class.
Constraint
A limit imposed on rate constants. Typically this means keeping a rate constant (k0 or b) fixed, making it proportional to another, or ensuring that loops are in equilibrium (detailed balance).
Data Source
Which selection(s) of data are operated on by #Actions. See Algorithm Theory#Data Source
Dead time
The longest duration event that you allow to be missed (the program corrects for this). See Answers#How to choose Dead Time.
Event
A current of consistent mean amplitude and variance.
Global fitting
Simultaneously solving the kinetics of files obtained at different concentrations and/or voltages.
Rate constant
See Model Theory#Rates.
Segment
A chunk of contiguous data.
Selection
The highlighted stretch of data, or any stretch of data described by its first and last points.
Selection list
A list of #Selections. A data file can have several lists. To operate on a selection list, set the #Data Source to "list". See Data#Lists.
State
A conformation of the channel that usually lasts for a time longer than the response time of the recording system. See also Model Theory.
Task
See #Action
