Windows and Layouts

There are more windows in QuB than fit onscreen. The full list is in the View menu. QuB provides several Layouts for you to customize and switch between. Switch layouts using the buttons on the left (Acq, Sim, Pre, ...), or the Interface menu. Choose a window from the View menu to add it to the current layout. If 7 layouts aren't enough, choose "Additional layouts" from the Interface menu.

By default, QuB uses snap-in frames. You can drag a window by its title bar to a different part of the screen, and move the boundary between windows. The red X hides a window, but does not close any files inside it.

Trouble resizing (workaround): In the following four-frame layout,

[ A ][ B ]
[ C ][ D ]

if it won't let you move the C-D boundary far enough left, try moving the A-B boundary to the right of the C-D boundary first.

The snap-in layout can get confused. To reset it to the original defaults, choose "Restore interface defaults" from the Interface menu. "Restore interface defaults in all" will reset all of the layouts.

Instead of snap-in frames you can choose "floating windows" (Interface menu) and arrange them like normal windows.

There are an additional 8 unnamed layouts available by selecting the Interface -> Additional Layouts menu option. The predefined layouts are completely configurable, as are the additional layouts.

There are two methods used to switch among the layouts. From the Interface menu you can set the active layout to one of the 7 predefined layouts. The menu option Interface -> Buttons Visible is used to toggle a group of buttons along the left edge of the main window which can be used to set the active layout to any of the predefined layouts or the additional layout.

The layouts can be reset to the default arrangement individually or as a group using the menu options Interface -> Restore interface defaults or Interface -> Restore default in all.

The ability to 'dock' windows is enabled by default, and can be toggled using the Interface -> Floating windows menu option. If docking is enabled, the windows can be arranged in any combination of floating or docked formats. A docked window can be placed anywhere on the screen, but its size and shape will be constrained so that all of the windows fit within the borders of QuB. Docked windows can be changed individually to floating windows by dragging the window outside the QUB main window or by holding the Ctrl key while dragging.

Actions and Buttons

The right-hand button bar contains "Actions" including algorithms (Sim[ulate], MIL), data export (Ext[ract]), selection list management, and scripts. Click a button to run it, or right-click it for options. You can also choose an action from the Actions menu.

Not all actions are shown in the button bar. You can customize which buttons are visible, per layout, by choosing "edit buttons" from the Actions menu. It's a good idea to hide buttons that are irrelevant to your work.

Presets and Defaults

Most properties forms for files and Actions have a "Presets" menu in the lower-right. You can make a name for all the current settings, and switch among saved settings by name. You can also export settings to a file, e.g. to bring to another computer, or to keep a record of your analysis. Presets are stored in Documents and Settings\...\Application Data\QuB.

When you open a model or data file that doesn't include display settings, QuB uses the settings from the last open file.

Try right-clicking everything

Almost everything in QuB responds to the right mouse button. Most windows have context-sensitive menus, as do model states and rates, list items, and even the points in some graphs. You can also:

  • right-click-drag between two model states to connect them
  • right-click a button to see its options
