The LiveSim button is more like a check-box. When it's pressed down, you're in live re-simulation mode. Once you've simulated some data, it will be re-simulated every time you make a change in the model. Re-simulation happens only when the current (visible) data file was simulated using the current model file. Obviously you don't want to use LiveSim with big simulations.

Suggested use: simulate 1 segment of 10000 points. Turn on LiveSim. Edit the model to see the effects on simulated data. Try clicking a rate then using the mouse scroll wheel with different modifier keys held down (shift, ctrl).
